Founded in 1995, Computer Network Information Center (CNIC, www.cnic.cn) of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS, www.cas.cn) is a public support institution for consistent construction, operation and services of informatization infrastructure of CAS. It is also a pioneer, promoter and participator for informatization of domestic scientific research and scientific research management. Faced with the historical opportunities that have been rarely experienced, CNIC has been striving to become a research, development and application basis for advanced network and application technology, backbone and supporting team for construction, operation and services of informatization, construction and training center of informatization supporting team, promotion center, technology center and exhibition center for scientific research informatization construction of CAS; a window for international technological cooperation and exchange with informatization as basis and a national team for basic resources management and operation of internet. CNIC boasts seven research and service divisions, including China Science and Technology Network Center (CSTNet), Scientific Data Center, Supercomputing Center, Collaboration Environment Research Center (CERC), Academia Resource Planning Operation Support Center, Internet-based Science Communication Center and China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). In addition, CNIC also set up three support departments, including General Group for Advancing e-Science Applications, e-Science Call Center and Journal Editorial Department, to promote its supporting to CAS and the nation. Since the past 17 years, CNIC has built and developed a strong administration team which consits of Science and Technology Department, Human Resource and Education Department, Finance Department and Comprehensive Office.
China Internet Network Information Center:
China Internet Network Information Center (abbreviated as CNNIC) is an administration and service organization set up on June 3, 1997 upon the approval of the competent authority and undertakes the responsibilities as the national Internet network information center. In light of the policies of "providing efficient and application-oriented services through secure & stable Internet infrastructure for public interests”, CNNIC, as an important constructor, operator and administrator of infrastructure in Chinese information society, is responsible for operation, administration and services of fundamental Internet resources, undertakes R&D and security work of fundamental Internet resources, conducts research on Internet development and provides consultancy, and promotes the cooperation and technological exchange of global Internet in an effort to become a world-class network information center.

Located in the Heilongtan scenic spot of Kunming, capital of SW China’s Yunnan Province, the Kunming Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (KIB/CAS), is originally the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Botany which was founded in 1938, and was afflicted to Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and renamed CAS Institute of Systematic Botany Kunming Station in 1950. Adhering to the tenet of “trace the origins of mountains and rivers, exhaustively name all of the plants and trees”, KIB dedicates to exploring, conserving and utilizing plants so as to benefit human. KIB is a wholly-government-sponsored institution with a total of 306 staff members, 282 doctoral and master students, 255 retired employees, including 3 CAS academicians, 7 winners of National Fund for Outstanding Young Scientists and 15 Young scientists under the Hundreds of Talents Program of CAS.

To visit Kunming you need to bring lightweight clothing: long-sleeved shirts or T-shirts, plus one or two jackets and sweaters. It is warm but temperature varies sharply between the day and the night. Dress warmly when going out at night.
